Chia Seed Gel – The Proper Recipe!
Jul 1st, 2008 |The benefits of Chia Seed Gel are so numerous that I believe it shouldn’t be considered a supplement, but a staple in the North American diet. If you would like to read more about chia seeds, please read my article: Fight Hunger, Cravings, and Even Diabetes with Chia Seeds.
Unforunately, just about every website on the internet has the recipe wrong. Chia Seed Gel is made by combining 9 parts water to 1 part Chia Seeds. Just about every website on the internet has the recipe of mixing 1/3 cup Chia Seeds to 2 cups of water. This is NOT a 9 to 1 ratio, but a 6 to 1 ratio (divide 2 by 1/3 and you get 6). The correct recipe is as follows:
Put 3 cups of lukewarm water into a sealable container. Slowly whisk in 1/3 cup of chia seeds; whisking the seeds ensures they do not clump. Let stand, and whisk again for about 1 minute. Place the container in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
Chia Seed Gel will keep up to two weeks in a sealed container when refrigerated.
